Fife is an underrated region for exploring the outdoors. It’s Scotland’s 13th largest local authority area but it punches well above its weight for the number of beauty spots it is home to.

The range of locations also makes Fife so unique – we have a 115-mile coastline, several stunning hillwalking routes, woodland walks in all corners of the region, and many areas of natural beauty – almost all of which are accessible to all age groups.

The viewpoint at the top of Benarty Hill in particular is a must see, as well as the Anstruther to Crail section of the Fife Coastal Path, which in December 2020 was voted the best walk in all of Scotland. Read this article to learn more about these areas and other must see parts of the region.

HILLWALKING IN FIFE

Fife is a fantastic introduction to hillwalking. Many hillwalks in Fife – despite being below 2,000 feet in altitude – provide an even better day out than some Munros and is a good place to build up your knowledge of navigation and what a hill walk involves.

WHERE TO GO TO LOOK AT ROUTES

The best outdoor website in Scotland is WalkHighlands which, despite its name, has a whole section dedicated to walks, both low level and hillwalks, in Fife. It’s a great resource and can be accessed HERE.

Another very useful website is FifeWalking, which is similar to WalkHighlands but is specific to Fife. Access it HERE.
